I can still vividly remember the first time I tried to have sex after trying Viagra. Like any other ‘tried and tested’ male enhancement pills, the drug had the usual magical effect of making sex feel ‘better’ and more exciting, though let’s be honest, none of the truly transformative sex I’ve had have really compared to the sublime feelings of my first time trying Viagra. That’s not to say there weren’t positives though. For starters, being able to get an erection was a great bonus and, coupled with the drug’s ability to thin the blood, lessened the amount of time I spent recovering from sex to recover from sex. That, and the fact that Viagra removed the emotional and mental barriers my sexuality had previously been shackled to, gave me an entirely new lease on life as a sex toy and, ultimately, a new appreciation for my body as a whole.

Viagra is a drug that’s as popular as it is controversial. Officially, the only approved use of the drug is to treat erectile dysfunction in men. Unofficially, the drug is used by people who want to heighten their sexual experience, most notably, women. Whether you’re a fan of the drug or not, it’s undeniable that most people experience some effect when trying it for the first time. That experience, at least for me, was profound enough to last a lifetime.

Why Do Women Try Viagra?

If you’re reading this, I assume you’re either a woman already, or, at least, know one. In which case, you’re undoubtedly aware of how easy it is for men to lose their sex drive due to a variety of causes, the most common one being age. Now the prospect of running out of sex drives is enough to make most women desperate enough to try anything at all, including perhaps the most notorious of all anti-aging treatments, Botox. In other words, if you’re a woman, you know all too well that as you get older, your looks begin to decline, your sexual attractiveness wanes and your sex drive, quite naturally, begins to plummet. Sound familiar? If so, you’re in luck because there’s actually a drug that can help you avoid that fate and give your sex drive a much-needed boost. And let’s be honest, with all the side effects most drugs have, what’s not to like?

As much as age can be a challenge to a man’s sexual prowess, it can also be a blessing. For centuries, women have been putting up with the menopause, the post-menopausal change and the various other issues that flow from it, because there was absolutely no alternative. Thanks to the advent of modern medicine, though, there is now a way to combat the inevitable changes that come with age. One of the most popular ways women have turned to in order to combat the effects of menopause is, quite literally, through their pleasure centers. You may know that the brain controls the body in nearly every way and, as such, any sort of stimulation, whether it be physical, mental or emotional, can greatly enhance a woman’s enjoyment of sex and, quite literally, make her go wild again. What’s more is that, quite obviously, if you’re able to give women more pleasure during sex, you’re able to make them more willing to have it and, quite frankly, better at it.

The Evidence

There’s a reason why the only approved use of Viagra is to treat erectile dysfunction in men. The drug doesn’t work for women, or at least, it doesn’t work well for them. Studies have shown that, for women, the effects of Viagra are either completely absent or, at best, very weak. If you’re a woman and want to try Viagra, I’d advise against it. Or, if you’re a man and want to try the controversial drug, make sure you’re equipped for the unexpected effects it may have on you. Most notably, a lot of men have had negative experiences with the drug and, quite frankly, I wouldn’t want to risk becoming one of them.

Side Effects

As with any other drug, there are potential side effects associated with Viagra. The most commonly reported side effects, as with most other drugs, relate to the central nervous system and include dizziness, headache, drowsiness, upset stomach, blurred vision, etc. For whatever reason, though, many people experience these side effects less frequently than one would expect given the drug’s popularity. Another potential side effect of Viagra is an increased risk of bleeding. The exact opposite of what you want from an anti-aging treatment, right? Though this is highly unusual, in some cases, people have experienced bleeding problems as a result of taking the drug. In one of the more recent clinical trials, a few patients experienced an increase in blood clotting, though this side effect seems to be minimal and isolated to a small percentage of the population. Finally, the side effects of Viagra are similar to those of other heart stimulants, including palpitation, accelerated heart rate and increased blood pressure. In most cases, though, these side effects are mild and transient. In severe cases, they can even be life threatening. If you’re a woman and want to try this drug, make sure you’re aware of the risks.

Being able to increase or decrease your sex drive is an incredible power and, quite frankly, something men have long craved. Though there are definite risks associated with Viagra and, as mentioned, it doesn’t work well for women, there are also substantial benefits to be had. Especially for women who want to fight the adverse effects of menopause and age, but can’t find the time to have sex as often as they’d like. In some cases, especially if you’re in a clinical trial, the benefits may even outweigh the risks. For now, though, the FDA still lists sexual dysfunction as an off-label use of Viagra, which means you shouldn’t take it unless you’re specifically looking for treatment for erectile dysfunction in men. In any case, make sure you’re aware of the potential risks before you take the drug and, as always, consult your doctor before you start your regimen, especially if you’re already taking other medications or supplements, such as aspirin, Vitamin D, or hormonal therapy. For most people, though, there’s no reason to be afraid of trying Viagra. Just make sure you’re prepared for the unexpected and, quite frankly, wonderful effects it may have on your sexual experience and give it a try, if only for fun.
