It is difficult to put into words the joy that Cory and I felt when we found out we were pregnant with our first baby. After 10 years of marriage we decided to take the next step and try for a child. We had both wanted to have a family for as long as we could remember and knew this was the right step for us. The news sent our hearts soaring and we could not wait to share our exciting news with our family and friends. Although we are very happy and feel blessed to have our baby girl in our arms, we are also realistic about her birth and the impact it will have on our marriage. Going through labour and birth is no easy feat and can be a very emotional and exhausting time. Having said that, we are confident that experiencing these together as a family will strengthen our bond as a couple and help us to grow closer as a parent and parent-to-be.

Parenthood And Marriage

Parenthood is a life-changing experience that can have many positive ramifications for those who decide to go down this path. The responsibilities and the commitment are undoubtedly significant and will impact every area of your life. We feel blessed that our lives have been changed in such a positive way and cannot wait to share our experience as parents with our daughter.

Marriage is often seen as a path to family and security but it is also a commitment to be there for each other through thick and thin. Even when you have children, you will still need each other and your relationship will be tested as never before. We hope that our story can serve as an example to families who are seeking alternative paths to parenthood and that our love continues to shine through the cracks in our relationship.

Why A C Section?

C-section births are on the rise in Australia, with 80,640 babies born via caesarean in 2018. While you might not need a surgical incision to deliver a baby, the advantages of a caesarean are many. It is, of course, the most expedient way to give birth but it is also associated with increased bonding and maternal pride. There is also the option of a natural childbirth which many mothers-to-be choose due to its advantages. Not only can you bring your baby into the world in the position they were meant to be in (supine or prone), you can also walk around the hospital with them holding your finger. This benefits both you and your baby as it provides continuous movement and lessens the discomfort of lying down for prolonged periods.

If you are choosing a caesarean, your obstetrician will likely recommend considering the option of a vertical incision rather than a traditional horizontal incision. This will provide better blood flow to the baby and make the recovery period go more smoothly. If you are agreeing to the cut, they will also tell you it will help your body bounce back much quicker than if you had given birth naturally. Whilst it is not always an easy process getting pregnant, birthing and raising a family, we are confident that the rewards are worth it.
