To make matters worse, people mix up the other way around as well and say “pene” (penis) for “petelle” (testicle). Try to remember these words and use them correctly, or you will certainly end up sounding ill-informed or even ignorant. Most people say “está bien” nowadays, but your response will surprise them. You will also say “no hay problema.” When someone asks you if there is a problem, the appropriate response is “no hay” (pronounced: no hay). You can also use “hay” to say “yes,” but this is not common anymore. Most people will say “sí” if they want to agree with what you’re saying, but this is not always the case.
