Most people reading this blog post will know what Viagra is and how it works. If you’re not familiar with the drug, it’s an oral medication that improves blood flow to the penis, making it harder for the male organ to become engorged with blood during sexual stimulation. The active ingredient in Viagra, Sildenafil, is a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor.
What most people don’t know is that Viagra is one of the most complained about drugs on the market. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, adverse reactions to Viagra include headache, flushing, dyspepsia, and drug interactions. The O.C. Drug Enforcement Agency (OCDREA) lists Viagra as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act, along with heroin, LSD, and methamphetamine.
Schedule I
Viagra is classified as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act with a black box warning. This type of drug is considered unsafe and has a high potential for abuse. The drug also has significant cardiovascular and psychiatric side effects. It’s banned in several countries, including Australia, where it’s become popular as a treatment for men with erectile dysfunction.
Gold-Plated Viagra
If you’re looking to get your hands on some Viagra, but don’t want to spend your money on a drug that could potentially be unsafe, you have a choice. A team of scientists from the United Kingdom created a new drug formula that’s been called gold-plated Viagra.
The new medication is made from the same active ingredient as Viagra, Sildenafil, however, it’s been coated in a thin layer of 18 karat gold. The coating, which is roughly equivalent to 1/1000 of an inch of pure gold, reduces the drug’s effectiveness by 98% and makes it 600 times more expensive than the regular dose of Viagra.
This formula isn’t approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for medical use and it’s considered neither safe nor effective for treatment of erectile dysfunction. It’s also been classified as a legendarily impure substance and is not recommended for human consumption.
The Cost Of Gold
The cost to coat one pill with 18 karat gold is approximately $3600.
Forbes notes that the 18 karat gold price is usually between $300 and $500 an ounce, depending on the market condition. This puts the cost of gold-plated Viagra at between $900 and $1300 per pill.
Is It Worth It?
Considering the side effects, high price, and unpurified composition, it’s no wonder that so many people are trying to avoid buying Viagra. At the same time, those who are on it report that it’s been effective in improving their sex life and helping them to achieve more frequent erections.
So, is it worth it? That depends. If you’ve tried to avoid spending money on medical bills and you need help with sexual performance issues, then the answer is yes. As for the rest of us, it’s probably not a good idea to spend our hard-earned money on drugs that are supposed to improve our sex life. That’s something we can explore with our spouses, girlfriends, or other interested parties.
