Even diehard fans of the show may be surprised to learn that season six,
starring Courtney B. as Becky, marks the end of the line for the beloved
character. While the show still stars many iconic faces (Malcolm McDowell,
John Lithgow, and Estelle Harris among them), this may be the final year for
the original Tracy-Beck character. This is a significant departure from the
original series, which first aired in the 1980s and still ranks as one of
the highest-rated TV shows of all time. Now it appears that Hollywood may be
pulling its punches in terms of letting Betty die.
The Rise Of Viagra
Even diehard fans of the show may be surprised to learn that season six,
starring Courtney B. as Becky, marks the end of the line for the beloved
character. While the show still stars many iconic faces (Malcolm McDowell,
John Lithgow, and Estelle Harris among them), this may be the final year for
the original Tracy-Beck character. This is a significant departure from the
original series, which first aired in the 1980s and still ranks as one of
the highest-rated TV shows of all time. Now it appears that Hollywood may be
pulling its punches in terms of letting Betty die.
The show’s future is certainly in doubt, but even as it heads into its
final season, there is still much to learn about the impact of the drug
Viagra on the show’s central character. Viagra was first approved for
marketing back in 1998 and is currently the #2 drug sold in the U.S., with
around 32 million prescriptions written annually.
The Many Roles Of Viagra
Viagra has become such a mainstream pharmaceutical that individuals
typically associate the drug with common ailments like erectile dysfunction
(ED) or lack of libido. While these are certainly two of the more well-known
uses of the drug, it is far from being a curse. In fact, Viagra is a
multi-billion-dollar industry and has been a commercial and literary success
since the 1950s. Even in today’s world of opioid addiction and the
over-prescription of antibiotics, Viagra remains one of the most popular
medications.
Most notably, Viagra has been instrumental in bringing older and
semi-permanent penile erections to the masses. Prior to the creation of
Viagra, getting an erection was considered a rare and mysterious process,
usually only triggered by a stroke or cardiac arrest. Even now, getting
Viagra is the best way to ensure you will get an erection if you do not
otherwise already have one (especially if you are taking it with a meal or
drink).
Viagra also has an important, but under-appreciated, role to play in the
war against sexual dysfunction and dysfunctioning. First of all, Viagra is
the only drug proven to increase the sensitivity of the prostate gland,
which in turn allows for more intense sexual stimulation. Second, as
mentioned above, almost all sexual dysfunctions and dysfunctioning can be
triggered or made worse by stress. So if you are looking to boost your
libido and are experiencing low or mid-level stress, Viagra is certainly
worth a trial.
Why Did Courtney B. Die?
Courtney B. was originally tapped for the iconic role of Lucy on the
original series in the 1980s, but was unable to play the character due to
unforeseen circumstances. The actress, who also starred in the popular
television show Dallas, tragically passed away from cancer in 1986, at the
age of 43. In an interview with TV Guide in 2017, the show’s creator Steven
Spielberg expressed his grief about Courtney’s passing, saying that “she was
one of the finest actresses of her generation…[S]he brought a depth and
maturity to the role of Lucy that I believe has never been surpassed.”
While Courtney B. tragically passed away before she could fully play the
part, she did end up portraying Lucy in a dream sequence at the end of
season six.
It is unclear why Spielberg and company chose to have Courtney B. die.
Perhaps they thought a dream sequence would be the best way to let her
fans/followers know that despite her untimely passing, the role of Lucy
would not be forgotten. Or maybe they just wanted to focus on the fact that
even in death, Courtney B. still looks amazing.
What Will Become Of Becky?
As mentioned above, even diehard fans of the show may be surprised to
learn that season six, which starred Courtney B. as the titular character,
is the end of the line for the beloved and iconic Tracy-Beck character. While
the show still stars many iconic faces (Malcolm McDowell, John Lithgow, and
Estelle Harris among them), this may be the final year for the original
Tracy-Beck character. This is a significant departure from the original
series, which first aired in the 1980s and still ranks as one of the
highest-rated TV shows of all time.
It’s unclear what will become of Tracy-Beck, but with the show’s future in
doubt, the smart play would be to cash in on the popularity and try for
another hit. Many of the main characters from the show have had successful
Hollywood careers since the show’s premiere in the 1980s: Estelle Harris is
now a well-known and much-loved actress and TV commentator, John Lithgow is a
respected performer and award-winning director, and Malcolm McDowell is
perhaps best known for his role as the racist politician George Wallace in the
film version of A Man for All Seasons. Perhaps one of these characters will
be tapped to replace Courtney B. in the final season of Tracy-Beck.
